Challenge
Create an engaging children's book introducing engineering careers while celebrating SLB's 100-year anniversary. The goal was to inspire young readers by making engineering approachable, understandable, and fun.
My Role
I wrote the book in rhyme and collaborated closely with the illustrator to develop a story that introduces children to the world of engineering through playful language, memorable storytelling, and engaging visuals. I also adapted the book into Spanish, rewriting the text so it maintained its rhythm and rhyme rather than serving as a literal translation.
Creative Approach
Writing for children required balancing creativity with clarity. Rather than simply describing engineering careers, I used rhyme, rhythm, and repetition to create a story that children would enjoy reading aloud while naturally introducing technical concepts and career possibilities. The narrative was designed to spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and demonstrate that engineering is driven by creativity, problem-solving, and imagination.
When adapting the book for Spanish-speaking audiences, I recreated the rhyming structure and flow of the original rather than translating it word for word. This required preserving the spirit, humor, and educational value of the story while ensuring it felt natural and engaging in a different language.
The project demonstrates my ability to adapt my writing for different audiences—from highly technical professionals to young readers—and across languages while maintaining creativity, clarity, and purpose.
Results
Created as part of SLB's 100-year celebration, the book showcases my ability to combine technical communication with creative storytelling, educational writing, and cross-language adaptation to engage readers of different ages and backgrounds.
